I recently had the chance to try the brand-new, value-packed buffet at Bangkok’78, located within the Sindhorn Midtown Hotel Bangkok, Vignette Collection.

The Vibe

The restaurant has been beautifully renovated! It’s much more spacious and features a stunning new design inspired by a vintage train carriage. It’s a total vibe!

The Food

This new concept features unlimited made-to-order Thai dishes, highlighted by freshly grilled River Prawns served straight to your table.

We’re talking about fresh River Prawns, grilled to order, plate by plate. Once you place your order, the chef grills them fresh just for you.

The prawns are incredibly fresh—the meat is firm and bouncy, and they are packed with rich, creamy roe. They taste just like the premium prawns you’d pay hundreds of baht for per piece at specialized restaurants, but here, you can order as many as you want! It’s absolute value for money.

Premium Selections (1 dish per person)

Moving on to the special menu items, where you can choose one dish per person. Options include Fried Shrimp Balls, Spicy Grilled Wagyu Beef Salad, Stir-fried Prawns with Bird’s Eye Chili, Steamed Seafood & Minced Pork Egg Custard (Hot Pot style), and Rice Noodles with Prawn and Crab Yellow Curry.

My Personal Favorites

For my choice, I went with the “Crying Tiger” (Grilled Beef Brisket) served with Jaew and Jaew Plara (fermented fish) dipping sauces.

I’ve been ordering this dish ever since the hotel rebranded and joined IHG—I even had it at the grand opening! It’s truly their signature dish. The beef is grilled to perfection, incredibly tender, and the dipping sauces are “Zapp” (super spicy and flavorful). Absolutely delicious!

Boiled Rice Station

I also ordered the Special Boiled Rice with side dishes. My go-to choices are the Chinese Sausage Salad, Salted Fish, and Salted Egg Salad. This is a combination I personally love and have to order every single time I visit. It’s consistently delicious and never fails to impress!

กุ้งฝอยทอดพริกหอม อันนี้ลองทานครั้งแรก อร่อยดีครับ กุ้งตัวใหญ่ ทอดได้ดี ไม่ติดน้ำมัน กร๊อบๆ อร่อยดีครับ

You can order as many appetizers as you like! The selection includes Golden Money Bags with Chicken Filling, Crispy Chive Dumplings, Fried Chicken with Chili and Salt, Glass Noodles Salad with Pork and Liver, Grilled Pork Neck, Pomelo Salad with Fresh Prawns, and many more.

Don’t Miss These!

Deep-fried Small Prawns with Fragrant Chili: I tried this for the first time and it was a delightful surprise. The prawns were a good size, perfectly fried without being oily, and super crunchy. Really tasty!

Fried Pork Belly with Fish Sauce: This is an absolute must-try. The pork is fried to perfection—savory, crispy, and incredibly delicious, especially when paired with their signature spicy dipping sauce.

ไข่เจียวหมูสับ ไข่ยัดไส้หมูสับ ไก่ผัดเม็ดมะม่วง ผัดคะน้ำปลาเค็ม กุ้งทอดซอสมะขาม ทะเลผัดฉ่า เนื้อผัดน้ำมันหอย และอื่นๆ

จานหลักผมสั่ง ปลาหมึกผีดไข่เค็ม ปลาหมึกสดๆ ผัดเข้าได้ดีครับไข่เค็ม นัวๆ อร่อยดีครับ

Main Courses

The main course selection is extensive, featuring classics like Thai Omelet with Minced Pork, Stuffed Omelet, Stir-fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts, Stir-fried Chinese Broccoli with Salted Fish, Fried Prawns with Tamarind Sauce, Spicy Stir-fried Seafood (Phad Cha), Stir-fried Beef with Oyster Sauce, and many more.

My Recommendation

For my main, I ordered the Stir-fried Squid with Salted Egg. The squid was incredibly fresh and paired perfectly with the rich, creamy salted egg sauce. It was savory, well-balanced, and very satisfying!

ผมสั่งข้าวผัดแหนม ที่นี้ทำข้าวผัดอร่อยมากกกกกก ผัดข้าวได้ดีสุด แหนมก็อร่อย พริกน้ำปลาก็อร่อย ดีงามมากๆ

Single-Dish Selection

If you’re looking for classic comfort food, they have plenty of options like Railway-style Fried Rice (Pork or Chicken), Stir-fried Rice Noodles with Chicken (Kuaitiao Khua Gai), Holy Basil Stir-fry with Minced Pork or Chicken, Khao Soi with Soft Shell Crab, Pad Thai with Fresh Prawns, and many more.

My Pick

I decided to go with the Fermented Pork Fried Rice (Khao Phad Naem). They make an incredible fried rice here! The rice is perfectly stir-fried—not too oily and full of “wok hei.” The fermented pork is delicious, and when you pair it with their chili fish sauce, it’s just perfection. Truly top-tier!

Soups and Curries

The soup and curry selection is very diverse, featuring Omelet Soup (Kaeng Juead Khai Nam), Clear Tom Yum with Seabass, Chicken in Coconut Soup (Tom Kha Gai), Pork Kaeng Ranjuan (Shrimp Paste Curry), Green Curry with Chicken, Massaman Chicken, Braised Pork Belly with Five Spice (Moo Palo), and more.

My Recommendation

I ordered the Creamy Tom Yum Goong (Spicy Prawn Soup). The flavor was incredibly rich and bold! The prawns were very fresh and impressively large—absolutely delicious and a must-try.

Pizza, Pasta, and Desserts

In addition to the Thai feast, they also serve a selection of Pizza and Pasta. And of course, you can’t miss the desserts to wrap up the meal!

Sweet Treats

Aloe Vera in Butterfly Pea Lemon Syrup: This was so tasty and incredibly refreshing. It’s the perfect way to cleanse the palate after a big meal!

Thai Coconut Ice Cream with Toppings: I ordered the coconut ice cream, and it was delicious. It comes with classic toppings like sticky rice and palm seeds (Look Chid)—absolutely wonderful.
